Rock the 80s: TLA Playing Live at the State Theatre to Benefit Bob Perks Cancer Fund

If you haven’t already picked up your tickets for the Rock the 80s benefit show for the Bob Perks Cancer Fund on February 9, 2018, there are still a few left! You really don’t want to miss this great event, for a great cause, at the beautiful State Theatre in State College, Pa. Learn more and get tickets at the State Theatre’s site here: http://thestatetheatre.org/rock-the-80s-2/

The show will start at 7 p.m. We’re on early this year, so get there on time if you want to see us!  If you’re familiar with us, you’ll know that we rarely play covers, but we’re glad to do it for this event. Regrettably, since the event focuses on songs from the 1980’s, we decided we just couldn’t justify playing the one cover we’ve actually officially released, our Cocteau-Twins-meet-The-Dream-Syndicate demolition of Al Stewart’s “The Year of the Cat.”

Since that came out in 1976, there’s just no way to rationalize it as an 80s song, no matter how malleable your sense of time may be. So we’ll take this opportunity to share the video for it, which features cute cats and quotes from some famous writerly types. How many can you recognize?

This is our fifth sixth year supporting this cause. If you’ve seen us at one of the previous Rock the 80’s shows, you know that we’ve covered everything from New Order’s “Blue Monday” to DEVO’s “Freedom of Choice” to The Bangles’ “Walk Like an Egyptian.” We cannot reveal what songs we will be performing this year, but we can verify with absolute certainty that this year we will not perform in drag.

So you’re safe.

This event features many great performers and bands from State College, including The Feats of Strength, The JR Mangan Band, Tongue n’ Groove, Frackwater Jack, Spider Kelly, and many more.  It’s a blast. If you’re in the State College area on Friday, February 9, 2018, you really need to be there.
